Kitchen Floor Rebuild

The log house at Hill Farm was built in the early 1800’s & still had the original flooring structure of three-quarter round hand hewn log joists - which after 200+ years - were showing significant deflection in the center of the room. The client wanted to install a new kitchen into the space; however, in order to safely bear the weight of the cabinetry & soapstone countertops, it was determined that the original flooring structure needed to be removed and a new LVL floor system installed.

All the existing flooring structure was removed and a new concrete sill was poured on the original stone foundation to level & support the new joists. The LVL floor was framed out and Advantek subflooring installed. “Brazilian cherry” hardwood flooring was installed throughout the room.  Before the cabinets could be installed, plywood backing walls were furred out in front of the undulating logs to create a plumb planar surface to secure the new Cherry Cabinets.  All new electric & plumbing were installed throughout the basement and in the new kitchen.
