Addition and Roof Restoration

Designed by prominent local architect Mark McInturff, in an Post-Modern Style for the Nichols family - it is a lightbox in the woods. The requirements to sustain the ‘design-fabric’ of the home, while also updating the materials - leads to interesting variatio The front entryway tower was clad in custom 12” German siding that had deteriorated beyond its serviceable life. After removing all of this original siding on the front tower of the home, we then installed Boral fly-ash composite siding to match the original condition; flashing and recasing the custom widows as required. At the peak of the roof, at the apex of the intentionally slightly off-perpendicular axis of the home, sits a square cupola with a acrylic bubble dome overtop the oculus. To try to correct a tendency for water accumulation & penetration at this point, we built a scribed hip roof around the acrylic bubble dome assembly. The original windows and casing were removed and replaced with new.
